How the calculation works

Zakat is due when your zakatable wealth reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over it. The nisab is 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold or 612.36 grams (52.5 tola) of silver. This calculator uses the silver nisab, the more cautious position held by many scholars, and shows you both thresholds so you can see exactly where you stand. The zakat rate is 2.5% of total zakatable wealth.

A note on worn jewellery: scholars differ on whether zakat is due on jewellery worn regularly. Many hold it is due on all gold above the nisab, worn or stored. If you are unsure, please consult a scholar you trust. This tool is for guidance only.
