How gold is priced in Pakistan
In Pakistan, gold is traditionally quoted per tola. One tola equals 11.6638 grams. Jewellers also quote per gram, which makes it easy to price any piece by its exact weight. The price you pay for a piece is its gold weight multiplied by the day's rate for its karat, plus making charges.
What 24K, 22K and 21K mean for price
Karat tells you how pure the gold is. 24K is pure gold, 100 percent. 22K gold is about 91.6 percent pure, and 21K is about 87.5 percent pure. Because 22K and 21K contain less pure gold per gram, they cost less per gram than 24K. Most everyday and bridal jewellery in Pakistan is made in 22K or 21K, because pure 24K gold is too soft to hold its shape in fine designs.
Making charges, explained
The gold rate covers the metal. Making charges cover everything the artisan does to turn that metal into jewellery: designing, casting, setting stones, engraving, finishing and polishing. Making charges vary with the complexity of the design, and we state them clearly on every piece, so you always know what the craftsmanship costs.
Why the rate changes, and why buyers check daily
Gold prices respond to international markets, currency movements and local demand, so the rate can shift from one day to the next. A difference of even a few days can change the price of a heavier piece by thousands of rupees. That is why experienced buyers in Pakistan check the rate before they visit a jeweller, and why we publish it here every day.

Frequently asked questions
What is a tola?
A tola is the traditional South Asian unit for weighing gold, equal to 11.6638 grams. Gold rates in Pakistan are most commonly quoted per tola, and also per gram for precise pricing.
Why does 22K gold cost less than 24K?
24K is pure gold, while 22K is about 91.6 percent pure gold mixed with small amounts of other metals for strength. Since you are buying less pure gold per gram, the per-gram price is lower. That alloying is also what makes 22K strong enough for the detailed designs of bridal and everyday jewellery.
What are making charges?
Making charges are the cost of craftsmanship: the design, casting, setting, finishing and polishing that turn raw gold into a finished piece. They are quoted separately from the gold rate and depend on the complexity of the work.
When is the best time to buy gold?
Nobody can predict the market perfectly, but two habits serve buyers well: check the daily rate before you shop, and buy for the occasion rather than trying to time the bottom. For weddings and celebrations planned months ahead, many families buy in stages to average out price movements.
