The kara and beyond
For generations, a Pakistani man’s bracelet meant one thing: the kara. Thick, solid, permanent. It was jewellery as commitment, worn without thought and without removal. That tradition is alive and well, but today Lahore’s men have more choice, from substantial chain bracelets to modern cuffs.
Whether you want the classic kara or something contemporary, here is how to choose.

Styles of men’s gold bracelets
The classic kara. A thick, rigid bracelet, often with an opening mechanism. The definitive men’s bracelet in Pakistan. It says permanence. Choose it heavy and plain, and it will outlive you.
Chain bracelets. Heavier curb, rope or figaro chains with strong clasps, worn on the wrist. More contemporary than the kara, with the same gold presence. The clasp must be proportionate to the chain’s weight.
Cuff bracelets. Rigid, open-ended, modern. Architectural and clean. A good choice for the man who finds the kara too traditional but wants real substance.
Signet cuffs. Cuffs with engraved or patterned terminals. A bridge between the signet ring tradition and the bracelet.
Religious and motif karas. Karas with calligraphy, traditional motifs or family symbols. Deeply personal and widely worn.
What matters in a men’s bracelet
Weight is the point. A men’s bracelet should feel substantial. This is not the place for lightness. A light men’s bracelet feels wrong, wears poorly, and frankly looks tentative. Buy the weight you can afford, but do not go below what feels right on the wrist.
The closure. For karas with openings and for chain bracelets, the clasp or hinge is the critical engineering. It must close with authority and never open accidentally. Test it repeatedly in the shop. Ask about repair if it ever loosens.
Wrist fit. A men’s bracelet should fit close without binding. You should be able to slide a finger underneath but not much more. Too loose and it bangs against everything; too tight and it is unwearable in summer.
Finish for real life. Polished gold shows every mark. Brushed, hammered or textured finishes wear their history gracefully. Consider how the bracelet will look after years of actual life.
21K vs 22K
22K for the classic rich colour, especially for karas. 21K for chain bracelets and detailed work, where the extra hardness keeps links and patterns crisp. Both are proper gold with full resale value.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best men’s bracelet style in Pakistan? The classic gold kara remains the most worn and most respected. Chain bracelets are the modern alternative. Both are excellent; the choice is temperament.
How heavy should a men’s gold bracelet be? Substantial enough to feel permanent. Your wrist will tell you. If it feels insubstantial in the shop, it will feel worse in a year.
Can men’s bracelets be resized? Chain bracelets can often be adjusted by adding or removing links. Karas with openings are adjustable within limits. Closed rigid styles are the hardest. Ask before buying.
Are gold bracelets appropriate for professional men in Lahore? Completely. A well-chosen kara or bracelet is standard among professional Pakistani men. Keep it to one, keep it tasteful.
Where can I buy men’s gold bracelets in Lahore? Traditional gold markets offer the best value and selection. Our men’s jewellery collection shows our range; we fit and finish in person at our Suha Bazar shop.
