The hardest-working jewellery you will own
A gold chain is worn more hours than any other jewellery most people own. It sits against the skin through work, weddings, summers and winters. It carries pendants, holds memories, and if chosen well, it outlives its buyer.
Because a chain is worn so constantly, buying the right one matters more than buying a pretty one. Here is what Lahore’s chain market offers and how to choose.

Types of gold chains
Rope chains. Twisted links that catch light from every angle. The most popular chain in Pakistan for good reason: strong, beautiful, and the twist hides wear. Excellent for daily use, with or without a pendant.
Curb chains. Flat, interlocking links that lie smooth against the skin. Comfortable, classic, and very durable. A curb chain is the quiet workhorse of the chain world.
Figaro chains. Alternating long and short links in a distinctive pattern. An Italian design that became a Pakistani staple. More decorative than rope or curb, with real presence.
Box chains. Square links forming a smooth, geometric chain. Modern and clean-lined. Strong for its weight, which makes it good value.
Snake and herringbone chains. Flat, fluid chains that drape like fabric. Beautiful but less suited to daily wear; they kink if mistreated.
Choosing length and weight
Length. In Pakistan, men’s chains typically run 20 to 24 inches, women’s 16 to 20 inches. The chain should sit where you want it: at the collarbone, at the neckline, or below. Try it on with the neckline you will wear it with.
Weight. This is where honesty matters. A chain’s strength comes from its weight and construction. For daily wear, do not go too light; a very fine chain will break and frustrate you. For occasional wear with a pendant, lighter is fine. As a rule, the chain should feel substantial but comfortable for all-day wear.
Solid vs hollow. Some chains are made with hollow links to look bigger for less money. They are weaker and dent easily. For something worn daily, solid is worth the extra. Ask your jeweller directly; we will always tell you.
The clasp: the whole chain depends on it
A chain is only as good as its clasp. The best chains use a sturdy box clasp or a strong spring ring, sized proportionate to the chain. Test it in the shop: open and close it repeatedly. It should snap shut with confidence, never loosely. Ask whether the clasp can be repaired or replaced if it ever wears out.
Chains and pendants
If you plan to wear a pendant, buy the chain for the pendant, not separately. A heavy pendant needs a strong chain; a delicate pendant needs a finer one. Bring your pendant when chain shopping, or choose both together. The bail (the loop on the pendant) must fit the chain’s thickness.
Frequently asked questions
Which gold chain is strongest for daily wear? Rope and curb chains in solid construction. They distribute stress across many links and handle daily life well.
What karat is best for gold chains in Pakistan? 22K for the traditional rich colour; 21K for finer link work and slightly better hardness. Both are excellent.
How do I stop my chain from breaking? Buy solid, not hollow. Take it off for sport and heavy work. Store it flat or hanging, never tangled. Have the clasp checked yearly.
Can a broken gold chain be repaired? Usually yes. A skilled jeweller can rejoin broken links and replace clasps. Bring it in and we will assess honestly.
Where can I buy gold chains in Lahore? Traditional gold markets like Suha Bazar offer the widest selection and most honest making charges. See our men’s chains collection for the range.
